Islamische glaubensbasierte Organisationen in Tansania

An overview of the field of Islamic faith-based organisations (FBOs) in Tanzania and insights into selected organisations are the basis from which Sebastian Müller develops a novel approach to understanding NGOs. Focusing on the organisations’ central characteristics that have hardly been considered before, the author reveals the structures, processes and principles of the modes of operation of individual organisations as well as the field as a whole, beyond the context of Tanzania. This is an empirically dense work on the role of Islamic FBOs as civil society actors in development aid in Africa and, with the typology developed based on the organisations’ sustainability modes, an innovative contribution to NGO research.
