Description
The book reflects the Computational Theory of the Mind. The Computational Theory of the Mind (broadly taken) wants too much, and rather expounds a research program than providing a justified reduction of the mind to computation. Nonetheless, computational models of some cognitive capacities are of heuristic value, at least. The claim that everything is computable is examined in detail. As far as the claim is perspicuous it seems false. As a postulate it is irrefutable, but also of little relevance to cognitive science. The book proceeds to question the reductionist attitude towards the mind. And doing this it considers the question which role phenomenology and analytic epistemology still play for the cognitive sciences.
