Jeremias Gotthelf: Historisch-kritische Gesamtausgabe (HKG)

In this edition the versions of the almanac, the preliminary studies and the later re-workings of the texts are published in full for the first time. The accompanying facsimiles of each year’s almanac also help to preserve the medial unity of the calendar. The extensive commentary also reveals a basic function which Gotthelf ascribed to the almanac, especially in his detailed reviews of the year: to follow the daily press and to educate his audience to become responsible citizens of the republic.
