Jeremias Gotthelf – Historisch-Kritische Werkausgabe
Description
The correspondence with booksellers, printers, popular literature societies and magazine editors provides compelling evidence of the growing prominence of the author Jeremias Gotthelf, who had been courted since 1843 by Julius Springer – who would later become his principal publisher – and other German publishers. The letters cover business, private and political matters, reveal publishing networks and show how publishers influenced the works during their creation and how they were received. This edition publishes the currently known publishing correspondence and further publication enquiries, including previously unpublished documents – such as a letter to the publisher Heinrich Brockhaus – as well as lost letters and accompanying contracts, accounts and reviews.
