The private sector is instrumental in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the 2030 Agenda, as well as the objectives of the European Green Deal. However, collaborations among competitors to promote environmental and social objectives present raise complex antitrust issues. This book analyses the economic foundations and regulatory framework, highlights conflicting objectives in EU law and examines the approaches of the EU Commission and the competition authorities of the Member States. It shows how sustainability objectives can be integrated into the application of Art. 101 (1) and (3) TFEU and develops practical solutions for striking a balance between the protection of competition and sustainable development.
