Description
A child's first emotionally charged object is its placenta. As a primal object, it reappears after birth in early childhood fantasies and symptoms. These assumptions serve the child and adolescent psychotherapist Ralph Frenken as the starting point for his investigation. He analyses the drawings of his initially seven-year-old patient Tom. Even before psychotherapy, Tom drew expressive pictures. The author describes the content of the works in detail and relates them to his patient's emotional symptoms, biography, family structure and psychodynamics. In this way, he succeeds in visualising unconscious structures of meaning and demonstrating the influence of the prenatal period and the placenta on Tom's later experience.
