After the deposition of the Wittelsbach dynasty, the Hellenic National Assembly elected Prince Vilhelm of Denmark as the next Greek monarch in 1863, under the name Georgios I. The same National Assembly adopted a new constitution in 1864, which was to affect the life of Greece over several decades. The present work deals with the practical application of constitutional provisions concerning the monarch and offers insights into the reign of Georgios I, which is to be viewed as positive overall.
