Description
The subjects of itinerating and travelling and thus the travel journal as a literary art form are as old as the histories of literature and travelling themselves. Musicians too, especially travelling musicians, have enjoyed one of the longest traditions of travelling. Travelling is just as much a part of artists’ and musicians’ everyday lives today as it was in the past. Their goal is not only to reach a place, their temporary destination, but also to be on the road. During their travels, they continuously discover places where they feel they belong and with which they share an affinity, which they capture as such in their works and, in doing so, make cultures and regions known.
This book shows these connections and reveals where and how art, music and travelling have overlapped in previous centuries and continue to do so today. The contributions it collates cover the significance of travelling for artists, musicians and cultural workers, and their influence on how places have changed.
With contributions by
Harald Pechlaner; Elisa Innerhofer; Julia Allerstorfer; Heike Biedermann; Nils Büttner; Claudia Caesar; Julia Frank; Gerhard Glüher; Elvira Hufschmid; Romuald Jamet; Alma-Elisa Kittner; Andreas Kolb; Francesco Mattuzzi; Thomas Roessler; Matthias Schamp; Pablo Schneider; Klaus Widmann.
