Description
This book develops an empirical approach to the long-term effects of exposure to the media from the subjective perspective of the viewers. This approach therefore enables the study of effects of the media that have so far been neglected in research. Furthermore, the book contributes to research on media memory. A qualitative case study examines the effects of television on viewers’ knowledge of, emotions towards and memories (mental and collective representations) of the Holocaust. The results show what role television plays – among other sources of knowledge – in the mental and collective representations of the Holocaust among different age groups.
This book will be of interest to scholars of media and communication as well as to all those interested in the field of media memory.
