Death, dying and bereavement are part of life. But they are only partially given space in society. How can life be given meaning if its end is obscured? Sociology of the end of life must keep pace with social change if it is not to lose sight of its subject. When the social conditions of life change, this also impacts its end.
This book brings together current studies, all of which provide insights into these marginal areas of society in the spirit of sociological enlightenment. Thinking about life from the perspective of its end leads to fruitful insights if the end of life is the focus of attention first.
