This detailed reference work offers the first comprehensive overview of all the people identifiable by name on the basis of epigraphic evidence who lived in or spent some time in the province of Gallia Belgica. Names are entered separately under family name and cognomen. In order to maximise the value of information in the lists, they include not only the individual parts of names and the written sources but always give the full form of the name. In addition, the catalogue contains details of where the sources were found, the dating of the inscription and – as far as is known – the status of the person named (military rank, profession, family connections etc.). Reference is also made to individuals’ national/ethnic origins. The most important secondary literature about all names, people and inscriptions is listed. Finally, as well as a linguistic explanation of the names, the catalogue offers an overview of the distribution of each name in the wider Latin-speaking territories of the Roman Empire.
