Liquidierung der Religion

Secularisation is often seen as the liquidation of religion in the sense of annihilation, against which it must resist. In fact, secularisation takes place as an irreversible process of religion losing its relevance in European modernity. It is not uncommon for originally religious phenomena to appear in a secular form. These developments pose a challenge to the Christian religion in the form of a learning process. In this process, the liquidation of religion means a liquefaction of itself, in a kenosis, from which it emerges in an altered social form that allows an adaptation to modernity. This includes giving up its claim to an ideological monopoly in a pluralistic society.
