Description
Legal history examines legal sources of the past, but rarely explores the underlying concepts of justice shaped by cultural, religious or philosophical influences. This was the aim of a project on the legal history of fair wages, the findings of which this volume expands upon by introducing various levels of reflection. It highlights various historical models of justice regarding wages for labour, which may be linked to status (e.g. in the case of civil servants), equality (including between the sexes), freedom of contract or models of contractual justice shaped by religion. One chapter is devoted to the practical implementation of such forms of justice in the courts.
