Magisches Musandam

Details
Musandam is a jewel among the landscapes of Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman. Its unique location is as a peninsula on the Strait of Hormuz. In the 1970s, a young scientist went to this remote mountainous region to study the life of the local population in detail for the first time. He not only discovers fascinating landscapes characterised by a sea rich in fish, deeply cut fjords, vast date gardens in the oases and a network of grain terraces amidst rugged, jagged mountains. He also encounters a fascinating culture marked by ancient traditions and the beginnings of change under the influence of the oil boom. The research of those days is the basis of this book, underpinned by previously unpublished original photographs, maps and drawings, which give an authentic insight into the life, places, culture, trade and mobility of Musandam's partly nomadic population. They bring back to life a magical world that has disappeared in this original form today. At the end, the book gives a brief overview of today's Musandam, which has developed into a dynamic exclave of Oman, only two hours away from the economic metropolis of Dubai.
