State and administration often need to make decisions under uncertainty. In many situations, the facts cannot be investigated fully or in time because of factual or legal restrictions. The contributions to this volume take on this issue and shed light on the much-layered facet of uncertainty and lack of knowledge in decision documents. The different kinds of uncertainty are systematised and separated. Then, methods and strategies for their recognition and management are developed.
