Matthias Koeppel
Sein Leben und Werk im Kontext der Künstlergruppe "Die Schule der Neuen Prächtigkeit"
Ergon, 1. Edition 2020, 266 Pages
Description
How to become an artist and remain it a lifetime? Matthias Koeppel dedicated his life to be a painter and a writer of lyrics. He developed himself to a narrative artist, who picked up the alienation effect to point out to social drawbacks in a humorously way. Coming from
abstract painting, he became a co‐founder of the artist group "The School of New Splendor". Under the protection of this association he succeeded in contributing to the establishment of New Realism. Koeppel develops into a humorous narrative painter who takes up Brecht's method of alienation to point out social grievances. The artist also uses "Starckdeutsche" as a means of transportation for his criticism. In the present volume, the examination of Koeppel's life's journey is rounded off by pictorial analyses and interviews.
