Hardly any other topic within media culture studies is as popular as that of media aesthetics—and at the same time as highly 'uncertain'. This is because it is still far from clear what is actually meant by 'media aesthetics', what it means, what it aims at, what it requires or which approaches and explanations can be taught and learned with it, both in general and as an example while studying media. This necessitates an introduction to media aesthetics which functions as a foundation. On the one hand, it locates the field of media aesthetics in the academic discourse.
