Medical device law can look back on a history of almost 35 years. During this time, the legal framework for medical devices has developed rapidly to keep pace with medical innovations and digitalization. In their contributions, the authors elaborate on various legal issues related to medical devices, in particular regulatory issues, clinical trials, liability, distribution and procurement law, advertising law, ESG, AI requirements for medical devices, and the effects of the EHDS. The work is dedicated to Dr. Michael Banz, the long-standing chairman of the BVMed's legal working group, who has shaped medical device law through his impressive work.
