Description
The metaverse gained widespread, if temporary, attention when ‘Facebook’ was renamed ‘Meta’. However, a digital world in which users enjoy an almost unlimited range of possibilities offers not only advantages, but also gives rise to a multitude of legal issues, both old and new. This study examines selected problem areas of substantive criminal law – such as its rules on the application of criminal law, the ubiquitous offences of insult, and the use of photorealistic avatars – as well as various European regulatory requirements for metaverse platforms – for instance, the AI Act.
