Societas Iuris Publici Europaei (SIPE)
Description
Current migration and refugee movements have not only raised politically controversial topics for the Member States of the European Union and the European Union itself, but have also led to complex legal discussions on the different levels of national law, European law, and international law. Therefore, the 11th Congress of Societas Iuris Publici Europaei (SIPE) dealt with the importance of migration as a new challenge for Europe, for state sovereignty and for the rule of law and the welfare state.
For two days, these diverse and complex questions were intensively debated in Bucharest among practitioners and theorists, renowned lawyers, academics, and judges from all parts of Europe. The first focus was placed on “Managing Migration: Europe and the Law”, while the second session focused on “Legal protection and Integration of Migrants in EU Law, the ECHR and the Law of Member States”. For both topics, the viewpoint of those European and national actors was emphasized, which bear responsibility for tackling migration and the protection of migrants. The Congress ended with a lively panel discussion, covering questions concerning the challenges of migration for European public law.
This volume contains the written, revised versions of all presentations given in Bucharest, together with the contributions of the “Workshop of Junior Scholars”. All contributions are provided in the respective language used at the Congress, which is always one of the three “official” languages of the SIPE, i.e. German, English, or French.
