Description
A brief smile during a chance encounter, a couple living together with or without a marriage certificate, or the life story of a victim of violence are examples of the diverse topics covered by microsociology. Generally speaking, microsociology deals with forms of socialisation. Based on the traditions dating back to Simmel and the Chicago School and the subsequent definition of the subject matter of microsociology, this textbook presents the theoretical foundations and selected studies. It shows that the subject area includes the socially formed subject and that interactions and personal relationships are always closely linked to emotions. In order to counteract the existing danger of harmonious idealisation, the topics of power, conflict and violence are also explored in depth. The volume is aimed at students of sociology and related social sciences.
Until his retirement, Prof. Dr. Karl Lenz held the Chair of Microsociology at TU Dresden.
