Military Sociology

The military covers an ambivalent position in modern societies. It is both reassuring and worrying. Also, ambivalent opinions are raised as regards military-related social research, which is often accused of being much too close to its research subject and thus too uncritical.
This volume qualifies the stereotypes often cultivated by explicating the broad thematic spectrum of Military Sociology as a scientific discipline.
The first part of the book focuses on research on research and entails reviews of the state of Military Sociology in selected countries. The second part consists of articles highlighting several of the most prominent current research topics in the field. Military Sociology, thus the essence of reading this volume, is crucial in understanding the problematique of the military and is conducive to shaping civil-military relations in ways that are appropriate for democratic societies.
