Details
"Music and Memory" is an introduction to musicological memory studies. Drawing on approaches from interdisciplinary memory and remembrance research, it examines, among other things, how the ephemeral medium of music can be stored at all, how music 'remembers' itself and how musical souvenirs and memorial compositions can be conceived. Fundamental aspects such as canon, archive and witnessing are addressed as well as the diversity of musical cultures of commemoration. The textbook is written for students of musicology and other cultural studies and humanities as well as for practitioners who deal with questions of musical memory culture in the narrower and broader sense.
