Description
The volume Musik und Flucht (Music and Forced Migration) sheds light on music in the context of forced migration to Berlin and thus contributes to the understanding of complex cultural processes. To this end, Sean Prieske accompanied refugees over several years, from their first arrival in emergency accommodations to their own apartments. Building on methods from ethnomusicology and music sociology, he shows how their arriving in Germany is reflected in the music they make and listen to and how music simultaneously affects their everyday lives. Research on music and forced migration has become established in recent years and will produce further publications in the future, including this book.

Reviews
»The author provides assistance and direction for future researchers and practitioners in the field of music and forced migration by presenting interdisciplinary points of reference. He builds on grounded theory approaches to identify six fundamental descriptive domains for such an examination. Of particular relevance is the study of memory practices and media devices against the backdrop of flight. […]. The book will hopefully motivate further studies concerning the context of music and forced displacement.«
