Description
New religious movements approach Judaism in a variety of ways—through distancing, idealisation, or appropriation. This work in religious studies focuses on interreligious communication processes concerning Judaism and the history of Jewish persecution, as well as the attribution of supposedly collective Jewish character traits. The study also systematically examines the incorporation of Jewish concepts into each movement’s own system of meaning.
It analyses how Anthroposophy, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Bahāʾī, the “Mormons”, and other communities—including those from the neopagan context—position themselves either as sister religions or as adversaries of Judaism, or even come to regard themselves as Jewish.
