Description
“This is not the end of the world, far from it [..]. Ísafjördur in northwestern Iceland is not the end [...].” These words are spoken by one of the characters in a novel by vagabond and working-class poet Albert Daudistel (1890-1955) alluding to his own difficulties in finding meaning in his stay in Iceland, which was not his country of exile of choice.
This book offers the first scientifically based biography of Daudistel and contains analyses of all the texts he wrote in Iceland about Iceland. It shows how he attempted to build bridges between the writing and thinking styles of Berlin's bohemian scene and German exiles, as well as the demands of literary tradition and the current state of debate in Iceland.
