Katholisches Leben in Potsdam von 1722 bis 1821
Ergon, 1. Edition 2025, 141 Pages
Description
The volume sheds light on the re-establishment of the Catholic community in Potsdam after the Reformation. From 1722/23 onwards, King Frederick William I promoted pastoral care for Catholic workers and soldiers. He had a church built on the grounds of the Potsdam rifle factory, which he furnished with liturgical equipment, textiles, paintings, and an organ. Later, private donors further enriched the church. King Frederick II finally granted the church parish rights. A Historian illustrates the path of the persecuted group to becoming a recognised community and analyses the preserved 18th-century works of art in St. Peter and Paul's Churc, a theologian descibes in written sermons use and significance liturgical objects that are still in use today. The book thus combines.
