Description
This interdisciplinary and comparative study focuses on non-binary concepts in modern art. Its goal is to rethink dichotomies and to emphasise the non-relevance of binary ways of thinking in certain situations. It thus intends the transitions between polarities to become more visible, in the same way that they were already evident in aesthetic productions around 1900. The study focuses on non-binary gender identities, but also questions binaries in relation to cultural classifications, e.g. with regard to internationality or popularisation, and the reformulation of natural aesthetics. The complexity of artistic modernity is shown as an interface for the beginning of globalisation and cultural diversification.
