Description
To the present day, hunger ranks among the greatest challenges for humanity. Up to 30 million people are at risk of hunger, and one in ten people suffers from the consequences of malnutrition. Hunger, as a phenomenon, can also act as both a trigger and a catalyst for conflict. This volume, which emerged from an interdisciplinary workshop held in 2023 at Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main, explores this connection and examines how criminal justice systems in different eras respond to hunger or organise the criminalisation of hunger and poverty. Central to this is the question of the extent to which criminal justice responses to hunger reflect existing structural social inequalities.
