There is still a prevailing public perception that men are the perpetrators and women the victims. In an overview of hundreds of scientific studies, this book shows that both genders are victims and perpetrators to the same extent. However, the care structures for those affected are still based on the above-mentioned stereotype. Intimate partner violence can only be adequately explained by circular models, which basically suggests a couple therapy approach; this has been proven to be effective, while the conventional strategies of sheltering the victim and perpetrator programs have proven to be ineffective over decades.
