Performing Gender im sozialen Zirkus
Eine Untersuchung des zentralamerikanischen Festivals „Back to the Roots“
Tectum, 1. Edition 2022, 254 Pages
Description
As a participating observer of a Central American festival, Birte J. Hoff examines the gender staging and representation as well as the reproduction of bisexuality on and off the stage of the social circus and provides an overview of the (re-)production patterns of gender stereotypes.
Based on (de-)constructivist gender theories and the theory of everyday knowledge, the author explains the differences between social and biological sex, presents gender hierarchies and the social handling of gender, and investigates the extent to which gender stereotypes are manifested and reproduced in the social circus.
