The history of German-American relations during the Cold War is systematically both reconstructed and deconstructed for the first time on the basis of written recollections (memoirs and autobiographies) of German Federal Chancellors and US Presidents. The study determinedly examines the personal depiction and appraisal of the bilateral relationship in the (reciprocal) perception of the former actors. As well as contributing to the study of transatlantic relations in the context of the Cold War, the volume offers significant insights into the deconstruction of memoirs and autobiographies, and general findings about this genre of sources.
