Staatsverständnisse
Description
This volume critically examines conventional understandings of the modern state. After a prologue by Achille Mbembe on contemporary Eurocentrism, the first part gathers reflections on state and postcolonialism in a narrower sense. Here, the focus is on criticism of and resistance to traditional conceptions of modern statehood and the Eurocentric perspective inscribed in them. The contributions in the second part try to dismantle territorial and epistemic ties of modern statehood by revealing the interconnectedness between the state and postcolonialism as well as the limits of state-centred thinking for postcolonial politics.
