Who bears responsibility for the risks of digital data processing? How are these risks discussed – and what consequences does this have for those affected and for society as a whole, for the law and for the design of technology?
This interdisciplinary anthology brings together critical analyses of the narratives that shape our perception of data protection, surveillance and the risks to digital fundamental rights. The contributions show that all too often, dominant narratives individualise collective risks, obscure power asymmetries and reduce complex social issues to technical or market-liberal pseudo-solutions. Users are burdened with responsibilities that they can neither comprehend nor bear.
