Description
Theories of radical democracy are characterised by their consistent assumption of contingency: Every order is created through conflict and fixes meanings anew and only temporarily. However, different conclusions can be drawn from this in terms of democratic theory. The French-influenced radical theory of democracy aims to take a critical stance towards the existing order, whereas the hegemony theory approach aims for strategic transformation. This discrepancy becomes particularly clear in relation to the state. In view of the contradictions within the discourse of radical democratic theory, which are succinctly illustrated here, the question of the future of radical democratic theories arises. Unity or division?
