Ramutten/Girkaliai-Ramučiai – ein mittelalterliches Gräberfeld im ehemaligen Ostpreußen

The medieval burial ground of Ramutten/Girkaliai (Ramučiai) in Lithuania is one of the most important archaeological sites in former East Prussia. More than 1,400 grave goods made of bronze, iron, glass, amber, and leather from the 8th/9th to 13th centuries have been preserved there. They provide a vivid picture of the rich material culture of this region. By combining originals, comparative finds, and archival materials, more than 240 grave complexes have been methodically reconstructed. This scientific recontextualization reveals both burial customs and social structures, making Ramutten a key site for researching the culture of the Curonians and their interconnections in the Baltic region.
