Description
Michael Stolleis (1941–2021) is the most important historiographer of German public law. His research spans from the beginnings of ius publicum in the early modern period to public law within a European framework following reunification. His principal areas of focus include natural law, the law of nations, constitutional law during the Enlightenment, the science of policey, the “long 19th century” with its constitutionalism and emerging interventionist state, as well as the legal and governmental order of the Weimar Republic and Na-tional Socialism. His work analyses the vast body of literature concerning the normative foundations of the organisation, powers, and limits of sovereign authority since the emergence of the modern state.
