Since 2009, the purchase and lease prices for agricultural land have developed dynamically, triggering a debate on the need for stronger land market regulation. Among other things, increasing ownership concentration processes and the growing influence of non-agricultural investors are cited as triggers for these developments.
This study is the first to address the issue from the perspective of legal economics. For this purpose, essential land price determinants are identified on the basis of current empirical data. Based on this, the known proposals for expanding the regulatory framework of land law are subjected to a critical review and own proposals are developed.
