Description
Crypto‑assets developed for a long time in a largely unregulated environment and triggered controversies worldwide. The MiCA Regulation aims not only to put an end to this 'Wild West' but also to strengthen the EU’s role as a digital standard‑setter. Four ambitious objectives have been defined: MiCA is intended to create legal certainty and clarity, ensure a high level of consumer and investor protection as well as market integrity, contain potential risks to financial stability and monetary policy, and promote innovation and fair competition. Will the EU’s pioneering role pay off, or should it be viewed as a classic case of acting too hastily? This dissertation addresses these questions and identifies areas for improvement.
