Description
Deleting posts treats the symptoms of hate speech, not its cause. This book gives legal scholars, regulators, and platform practitioners a workable framework for curbing hate speech without sacrificing freedom of expression. Drawing on comparative analysis of U.S., European, and international law and the EU's Digital Services Act, it develops enforceable due-diligence duties and argues for pro-social platform design over reactive takedowns. Rather than choosing between self-regulation and state control, it proposes Social Media Councils – multistakeholder bodies attentive to the Global South. Gabriel Ernesto Melian Pérez completed his PhD at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, researching platform regulation and digital human rights.
