Religiöse Rituale

Religious rituals have shaped human societies since their inception. At the same time, their complexity and diversity make them difficult for observers to understand: How do these repetitive, tradition-based and, at first glance, often seemingly meaningless practices work? What types of rituals are there and what function do they have for the individual and its social group? The textbook discusses these and other questions, highlighting the significance of rituals in various religious traditions and their respective social contexts. The volume is aimed at students of religious and cultural studies and also opens up social science interfaces.
