Religion als Grundlage der freien Gesellschaft

Is a society 'as if God existed' better? Combining a cybernetic problem analysis with Kołakowski's thought, this study first presents his diagnoses of the contemporary crisis as closely related to the crisis of the sacred. This conclusion is then generalised through an in-depth analysis of the relationship between the form of society and its religion. Finally, the theoretical framework allows for a better understanding of recent history and provides new insights into the present: the current political and ecclesiastical situation and the sacral dimension of the development of AI. It sheds new light on the work of Kołakowski himself and, through him, on the work of Charles Taylor.
