Description
Thanks to their specific mechanisms, social media open up new spaces for participation and thereby profoundly challenge institutionally established claims to authority in the religious sphere. At the same time, through their algorithmic recommendation systems, they prove to be ideal spaces for exerting ideological influence on users - who are often very young - and can thus significantly exacerbate the potential for social polarisation and fragmentation. This volume explores the opposing trends in the digital sphere of contemporary ideological culture, highlights key trends and dynamics by interweaving theological and religious studies perspectives, and examines possible courses of action for politics and society.
