Description
The effect of budget cuts in the area of research funding on creativity and innovation are compared from an American and German perspective in this publication. The contributions are based on an international symposium organised by the European Centre for Comparative Government and Public Policy in co-operation with the Zentrum für Technik und Gesellschaft of the Technical University of Berlin and the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington.
In case studies of basic research, health research and cultural research it is shown which reactions took place to reduced research funding in both countries. From these, suggestions for an efficient distribution of funds are drawn.
Besides, the volume contributes to a better understanding of the structure and organisation of the research landscape in both countries.
The authors are scientists from the fields of economics and cultural studies and research funding administrators.
