A secure electricity supply is essential for public safety, the economy and the well-being of citizens in Europe. One of the most important entities in cross-border electricity transmission are the Nominated Electricity Market Operators – in short: NEMOs.
NEMOs face a number of challenges: they are competitors in their role as power exchanges and, at the same time, condemned to cooperate by the CACM Regulation, have to work together closely with the transmission system operators and have to cope with very different market conditions in the EU member states.
This paper presents how NEMOs have been designed, which problems arise from the aforementioned structure and which reforms are possible and reasonable.

Umso mehr angesichts der gegenwärtigen Überarbeitung des Energiemarktdesigns und der anstehenden Reform von CACM lohnt eine Auseinandersetzung mit Vachas Werk und Reformüberlegungen allemal.«
