Description
Contrary to the usual assertion ("broadcasting rights"), sporting events do not "belong" to sports organizers in the sense of a legal right. The despite being strictly disadvantageous for the fans long since customary joint and exclusive sale of so called "broadcasting rights" violates antitrust law. This is because if they are allowed to broadcast the respective sporting events exclusively, broadcasters do not compete, but operate on separate end consumer markets, which they dominate because of their exclusivity. This foreclosure of respectively elimination of competition on the end consumer markets must no longer be tolerated by the antitrust authorities.
