Description
Rudolf Bultmann (1884–1976) is one of the best-known and most controversial theologians of the 20th century. His demythologizing essay was the subject of controversial debates until the 1960s. Despite this, his life and work during the National Socialist era have been insufficiently researched to date. This study examines the possibilities of influence which the New Testament scholar had at the Philipps University of Marburg, the compromises he had to make and how a critical attitude towards National Socialism is reflected in his works. In particular, Bultmann's sermons and collaboration in the "Erfurt Group" are examined for the first time with regard to his attitude towards National Socialism.
