For the first time, Professor Christian Andree presents here the complete correspondence of all Virchow's extant letters to Theodor Goldstücker, supplemented by Goldstücker's counter-letters to Virchow. The indologist, who was born in Königsberg in 1821 and died in London in 1872, was one of the most important researchers on India in modern times. As a professor of Sanskrit in London since 1851, he had a considerable influence on English-Indian jurisprudence. The correspondence provides a particularly revealing insight into the personal, scientific and political understandings of two revolutionaries of the 1848 period.
