This volume contains the notebooks and Prussian Medical Calendar for the period 1873-1881 and 1890. Like the previously published volumes of notebooks and diaries, the contents of this one clearly indicate Virchow’s main areas of scientific work during the period, areas in which he was a leading figure (and in some cases the founder of the discipline), here primarily prehistory, anthropology, and to some extent ethnology. There is little of medicine here.
