Saǧʿ al-muṭawwaq von Ibn Nubātah al-Miṣrī

The work ‘Sajʿ al-muṭawwaq’ by Ibn Nubātah (1287–1366) represents a unique literary experiment: it contains eleven panegyrics to his great literary breakthrough ‘Maṭlaʿ al-fawāʾid wa-majmaʿ al-farāʾid’; Ibn Nubātah expanded these with selected samples of his private correspondence with the eleven panegyric authors and compiled them into an independent work. Ibn Nubātah thus laid the foundation for the taqrīẓ genre, which flourished in the decades that followed. The present edition not only offers a further critically edited text by Ibn Nubātah, but also constitutes a contribution to taqrīẓ research that builds on previous studies and takes up and further explores selected aspects.
